Donuts, Doughnuts, Pączki, Donaty, or Pączki with a Hole…

I decided to learn a bit more about the well-known donut and understand how it differs from the Polish pączek.

I think almost all of us have tried at least one of these treats at some point, or even made them ourselves. I decided to learn a bit more about the famous donuts and understand the difference between them and pączki (traditional Polish filled doughnuts). Here's what I found. If any of you would like to add something or correct me, please do! I'm no expert in this field. Heck, I've never eaten a donut in my life, so unfortunately I have nothing to compare them to. I guess that will have to change…

yeast dough donuts

Donut is a name for treats deep-fried in oil or fat that are popular in many countries, probably all over the world, just like our beloved pączki. They are most often made in large batches during carnival season, but they taste good all year round. They are shaped like a ring with a "hole," round like a pączek, but there are also donuts in all sorts of irregular shapes, enriched with a sweet filling. Donuts and pączki can be made from yeast dough or from cake-batter-style dough. They can be cut out with a cutter that has a hole in the middle, or you can join the two ends of the dough together. After frying, they are decorated with glazes or chocolate, or sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. They can also be filled with jam or creams.
