Leeks with Fish or Fish with Leeks

Simple fish with leeks: white fish fillets pan-fried in butter with thinly sliced leeks and a squeeze of lemon. Easy, tasty and perfect for the Dukan Diet.

Fish with leeks is one of the least complicated ways to cook fish. The dish is simple to make, and the result is really tasty. Besides, the sheer number of good reviews (62) under this recipe on Mniammniam.com speaks for itself.

fish with leeks

The recipe for fish with leeks comes from Magda from Milan.

MzM (Mniammniam.com) doesn't give amounts of the ingredients and neither do I, or rather only "by eye," because the amount depends on your taste. Usually, though, I take 1 leek for 1 portion of fish. Ahhh, MzM writes that neither salmon nor tuna is suitable for this dish. She is probably right, but I sometimes make it with salmon (as you can see in the photo) and it tastes great too, although it's even tastier with a white fish, e.g. cod.

This fish, prepared without any added fat, is perfect for those who are on the Dukan Diet.

I'm adding this recipe to the Pora na pora ("Time for Leeks") event.

Time for Leeks

fish with leeks

Ingredients:

  • 1 fillet of white fish per person
  • butter for frying (I use ghee if I have it)
  • about 1 white part of a leek per portion (I leave a piece of the green part. HERE I wrote why)
  • salt
  • pepper
  • lemon juice

Cut the leek into thin slices. Melt the butter over low heat in a skillet, add the leek and cook until translucent. Push it to the side of the skillet and add more butter if needed. Add the fish and fry it on both sides. Season it and pour lemon juice over it.

Most often I serve it just as it is, as a small dish, e.g. for dinner, but you can also serve it with rice or potatoes.

My husband and I love fish like this, it's really tasty because the leek is so mild and adds flavor to any fish. Sometimes I add 2 tablespoons of sliced almonds toasted in butter (you can't let them brown). Yummy, I recommend it!
