Ice Cream with Cola and Caramelized Nuts

Ice cream and cola is the strangest combination I've tried so far. An ice cream dessert and a drink in one.

Phew, the weeks are flying by so fast! It feels like it was Christmas just a moment ago, and now it's almost Easter. I don't even have time for spring cleaning, not to mention getting ready for the holidays. Unfortunately, my activity in the kitchen has suffered lately too, but I hope I'll be able to make up for it soon.

Ice cream with cola and caramelized nuts

Just to take my mind off Easter a little, I finally decided to try a dessert (or maybe a drink?) that had been waiting for its day for a very long time. It had to wait because it seemed (and still seems) to me the strangest dessert I've ever eaten. Even though I trust Jamie Oliver's recipes almost blindly, I had big doubts about this one. On top of that, I'm not a big fan of ice cream, and even less of cola. But curiosity about how this thing could taste won out. Ice cream and cola with caramelized nuts turned out to be something tasty. My Husband liked it a lot more than I did, which is why I decided to write about this dessert here. Maybe it will find its fan :) I know, I know, it doesn't look very appetizing. But coffee with ice cream doesn't strike me as appetizing either, and it has lots of fans :)

I'm not giving exact amounts of the ingredients, because it depends on the size of the glass you use, your appetite, and how much you love the ingredients. I used a glass of about 300 ml.

Directions:

Rinse the peeled nuts and almonds, pat them slightly dry, and coat them very generously with powdered sugar. Spread them on a baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes at 180°C (350°F), or toast them in a dry skillet, stirring so they don't burn. The sugar should caramelize and coat the nuts beautifully. If needed, add more powdered sugar. Let cool.

Put ice cream in a glass, filling it 2/3 full (a little over 2 scoops). Pour in cola (careful, it foams) to fill the glass to the brim, and sprinkle with the nuts. Serve right away.

Enjoy!

I tried cola with vanilla ice cream once, and it does foam up in a weird way, but it's actually pretty tasty. It never occurred to me to add nuts too, that could be interesting :)

@Kas, thanks for the positive reaction :) I'm glad someone likes the idea ;)
@Kulinarne-smaki, for me the idea was out of this world too, but I'm glad I finally got up the courage to make it :)
@Karmelitko, I hope you didn't hurt yourself falling off the chair ;)
@Kareniro, the nuts are wonderfully crunchy :) Jamie also writes to add chocolate sauce, but for me that's already too much.
