I'd like to share a recipe for babka (a Polish tube-pan cake, similar to a pound cake) with you. An extraordinary babka: delicious, fluffy, buttery, light and melt-in-your-mouth. On top of that, it's very simple and quick to make. Its biggest and only flaw is that it disappears very quickly.
The recipe comes from dirk.
Instructions:
Cream the butter, sugar, vanilla sugar and a small pinch of salt until fluffy. Then add one egg and mix well, then add the remaining eggs one at a time. Finally, add the sifted flour with the baking powder.
Grease the baking pan with butter and sprinkle it with breadcrumbs. Bake for about 45 minutes in an oven preheated to 180°C (350°F).
Useful tips:
The eggs and butter should be at room temperature.
You can add lemon or orange zest to the batter.
After baking, dust the babka with powdered sugar.
Once you have a babka like this, you can work wonders with it. I decided to give mine as a gift to my new neighbors, whose family recently grew by one male member. For the occasion, so it wouldn't be boring, I decorated it like this:
