I served the strudel still warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Oh, it was so good!

I was thinking about how to describe this strudel in some new, original way, and nothing came to mind. Because how else do you describe tasty, simple and quick dishes, if not with exactly those words?

Maybe I'll try a different approach, though it's a bit cliché too:

One beautiful day I got a phone call from a friend saying she was coming over with her kids for coffee in about an hour. Knowing how punctual my friend is, I was a little panicked, because I had absolutely nothing to serve with coffee. I don't bake cakes every day, and I usually don't keep sweets on hand, because they tempt me too much :D I could probably have gotten by without "something with the coffee," but I like to treat my guests and to eat something tasty and homemade myself. In the fridge I found puff pastry, and in the fruit basket there were apples and ripe peaches waiting for their turn. There was nothing left to do but use those ingredients. Making this strudel took me about 45 minutes. Just before the doorbell rang, I took the strudel out of the oven. My guests walked into a house filled with a wonderful aroma. All that was left was to greet them and make the coffee. I served the strudel still warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Oh, it was so good!

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

Peel the apples and peaches, cut them into cubes and stew them in a pot until they soften slightly, being careful not to let them cook down too much. Cook off the juice, add the raisins and bran, then stir and set aside to cool. Add a few drops of vanilla extract and stir once more. Unroll the dough and spread the fruit mixture over it. Roll it up into a log and prick it with a fork. Brush with egg white and bake for 20-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve while still warm.

Enjoy!

Not that I'm trying to insinuate anything, but if I were your guests, I'd drop by unannounced a lot more often, knowing what treats were waiting for me :)
