Fast food is considered a terrible evil, but as the name says, it's a quick way to put dinner on the table for the whole family. Quick and tasty. You could talk about fast food for a long time, but just like pizza and other beloved dishes, when you make it at home you know for sure that there's nothing unwanted in it. Homemade burgers taste much better to me than store-bought ones anyway. I haven't touched the latter in ages. Homemade burgers made with good meat, fresh veggies and a crunchy salad are a whole different story. Even better would be to bake the buns yourself. Unfortunately, I had no time at all for baking burger buns lately and had to use store-bought ones. But that was the last time!

Blue cheese burgers

G. Ramsay's burgers caught my attention because of the blue cheese. Layered in a bun with lettuce, tomato and avocado, they simply melt in your mouth. My kids couldn't stop praising them :) I served them with a salad of baby spinach leaves, beet and arugula. Last time, the sides were roasted sweet potatoes and Coleslaw.

Blue cheese burgers

Instructions:

Finely chop the onion and chives, and crumble or chop the blue cheese.

Put all the burger ingredients in a bowl, season well and mix. Heat up a skillet (a grill pan is best) and shape the meat into 6-8 flat patties. Brush each one with olive oil and fry for about 8 minutes, pressing the patties flat with a spatula. Flip them halfway through. The meat shouldn't be dried out, because it will be tough and tasteless, so don't fry the burgers for too long.

Cut the buns open and assemble the burgers with the toppings. I spread a little ketchup and mayonnaise on the buns, put lettuce on the bottom half, then the patty, a slice of tomato and avocado, and finally covered it all with the top half of the bun.

Enjoy!

Additional notes:

  • The blue cheese gives the patties a pleasant flavor, but you can't taste it distinctly. So I wouldn't leave this ingredient out.
  • You can prepare the burgers a few hours ahead or the day before, and fry them right before serving.

Flowerek, which kind of mold-ripened cheese do you mean? The kind with blue mold or more of a camembert type? And if we're talking fast food, it's hard to put such a fancy dish in that category.

Basiu :))) To me it's a healthier and much tastier kind of fast food, especially since it's really quick to make. Gordon writes about crumbling the cheese, so I don't know which one he used. I used one with blue mold (it definitely didn't crumble). I think it should be a bit creamy, though, so it melts while frying.

Thank you! I'll try making these burgers because the mold-ripened cheese in the dish already makes my mouth water, but I think I'll also try it with gorgonzola or lazur.

I love the addition of blue cheese too :) Enjoy, and best wishes :)
