Vanilla Waffles

These aren't fluffy waffles (at least mine never turn out that way), but they're crispy and taste just like the ones from a waffle stand.

I got the recipe for these waffles from my mom, who shared with me her notebook of family recipes collected over the years.

These aren't fluffy waffles (at least mine never turn out that way), but they're crispy and taste just like the ones you buy at a waffle stand.

vanilla waffles

Ingredients:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 block butter or margarine (250 g)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • enough flour to make the batter runny (I needed about 10 tbsp)
  • vanilla sugar
  • optionally vanilla flavoring, or even better, a piece of a scraped vanilla bean

Melt the butter in a pot, add the sugar, milk and water, and let it cool. Add the eggs and mix. Finally, add the baking powder with the flour.

Pour the batter into a very hot waffle iron, and let the golden-brown waffles cool on a metal rack or standing upright.

Enjoy!
