## Instructions

Are you celebrating Valentine's Day? Are you preparing a sweet little gift for someone you love? The blogs are full of Valentine's ideas, the stores are red with hearts, and the chocolates are just begging to be eaten. Maybe I'll get some too?

With today's post I wanted to join in on the Valentine's mood, although I personally find this day nice but not necessary. After all, we can love each other and give each other gifts every day of the year, not just when everyone else does it because they're supposed to. That's the way I prefer to show Love.

But whether Valentine's Day is a special day for you or an ordinary one, I dedicate today's post to you, with a smile for your loved one, because (given how long they take to make) you need patience to make them, just like in Love :)

Basel Hearts

These little cookies are very delicate and very chocolatey. The dough is very runny, so you need to dust it generously with flour when rolling it out and cut it with simple cutters that aren't too complicated. The result is beautiful, tasty, slightly rustic, intensely chocolatey cookies.

Basel Hearts

**Instructions:**

Finely chop the chocolate, then melt it in a double boiler. Add the almonds, cocoa powder and flour and mix. Beat the egg whites with the salt until stiff, then slowly add the sugar, mixing constantly. Add about 3/4 of the chocolate-almond mixture, the cherry liqueur or cherry nectar, and the lemon zest, and mix. Add the remaining almond mixture and mix quickly. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for about 2 hours (my dough was too runny, so I left it in the bowl).

Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll the dough out to a thickness of 5 mm (or dust with more flour if needed) and cut out hearts (if necessary, dip the cutter in flour). Roll the edges in sugar and place the cookies on the baking sheets. Leave to dry for about 12 hours (preferably overnight).

Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F) and bake the cookies for 3-5 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

Enjoy!

Flowerek, beautiful! These are our traditional Christmas cookies :) The recipe is practically identical, we just use a bit more almonds (250g) and 2 tablespoons of cocoa. I'm curious how they taste with the lemon zest... :)
I recommend rolling the dough out on a board sprinkled with sugar instead of flour, because adding flour makes the texture and flavor a little different. You can also roll it out through plastic wrap, like any sticky dough, and then you don't have to dust it with anything :)
  Best wishes!

Thank you Bea for the comment and the helpful tips, as always :) You're right, maybe it's better to add a little more almonds and dust with powdered sugar. I didn't think of that. I'll definitely try it next time. The lemon zest only adds a light lemony aroma, but overall they're delicious. I hope they taste at least a little like the original Swiss Basler Brunsli.
